First see how home extension units helped rural women live on the prairie. Sunflower Journeys then ventures to Lindsborg where the Anatoly Karpov International School of Chess hosts a tournament of champions. In the Plains People segment, meet a single mother who goes back to school to teach the first grade. MORE

Episode #1803 - "Culinary Kansas", -
Learn about the life of Kansas native Russell Stover who, along with his wife, created a chocolate legacy. Next, it's a look back at Valentine Diners, tiny pre-fab eateries built in Wichita. Finally, Plains People spends a day at the Home Town Cafe in Barnes.   MORE

Sunflower Journeys

Episode #1807 - "Overcoming Obstacles", -
First, we visit Serenata Farms at Big Springs, Kansas, where horses are used to assist learning disabled youth. Then we visit Audio Reader in Lawrence, a reading service which broadcasts to visually-impared Kansans. Then in our Plains People segment, we see how a community network of friends enables independent living for two men who would otherwise be housed an institutional setting. MORE

First we look at early flight in Kansas, then visit Beaumont, Kansas, where pilots find a hotel that caters to their needs. Then we take a flight over Topeka in our Plains People segment. A pilot who taught flight in WWII now fulfills a dream of flying in a hot air baloon. MORE

Learn the story of photographer, filmmaker and Fort Scott native Gordon Parks. See how Latino immigrants adjust to life in Cowley County and meet a young man in Wichita who has two mothers. MORE

Episode #1812 -- "Religious Views",
Explore the history of Beersheba, an early Jewish settlement in Kansas then learn about Charles Sheldon and the social movement of What Would Jesus Do? Finally, follow a man through his experience as a newly-ordained Catholic priest. MORE

Episode #1813 -- "Kansas Women",
We learn the history of Clarina Nichols and her political achievements in territorial Kansas, then listen to the songs of Salina folk singer Ann Zimmerman. And finally, in our Plains People segment, spend some time with Kansas Governor Sebelius at the State Capitol. MORE
