Correctional Facility's prison walls with inspiration and music, Miss
Kansas 2004, Megan Bushell, and Stacey and Gerald are four of the
Kansans profiled in the new "Plains People" segment on this
season's SUNFLOWER JOURNEYS. |
Plains People segments are very different from the traditional SUNFLOWER
JOURNEYS story. The style is commonly called in the industry
"POV" (point of view) a less formal technique where the
camera captures the moments that happen outside the interview, and the
story is told from the individual's perspective.
Each mini-documentary features an individual narrating their
own process, struggle or challenge. For instance, Megan Bushell, Miss
Kansas, premiered the series, and the segment showed how she prepared
for the Miss America pageant. Viewers witnessed first person her
emotions, her determination and her nervous reaction to the string
bikini she was required to wear on national TV.

"The piece on Barnes was wonderful. It is always
interesting to me to see our community through "New Eyes". The shots
around town, background information, etc., was all so tastefully done
for the segment. - It was Great. My phone started ringing at 7:31 p.m.
last evening. Calls came for Kansas City, Topeka, Frankfort, Manhattan,
and a host of area communities advising they watched the show and were
pleased that our small town was so well presented."

"Just a note to tell you that I enjoyed the new segment "Plains
People" on Sunflower Journeys. Although, a few minutes of watching Miss
Kansas made me feel everso blimpy. My teeth also look extra yellowish
in comparison to Miss Kansas'. Thanks for enhancing my insecurity. On
a serious note, I did enjoy the segment and allowing the subject to tell
the story. Keep up the good work."

"Your production of the Elvera Voth segment in this evening's
Sunflower Journeys is the finest thing you have ever done. (The
Gregorian chant segment was a close second.) You MUST try to get
national network exposure for it. "

"Who produced Elvera Voth? Great piece. I loved not having
narration, just the words on the screen occasionally, and I also thought
the interviews were good, and the camera work--lots of really nice
details all through."

"I've been a fan of the Sunflower Journeys series for a long time.
All of you people involved in the production are doing a magnificent
job."
