As a part of the 2004-2005 Kansas Bill of Rights Celebration a group of students created a book titled "I'm Not Signing That! George Mason Stands Up for the Bill of Rights"

This book is appropriate for use with grades 4-7.

Bill of Rights Day

 

Bill of Rights Writing contest
The Kansas Bill of Rights Committee proudly sponsors The Bill of Rights and the George Mason Prose or Poetry Contest. Students in the fifth grade are invited to participate. The contest is designed to educate students about the history and importance of liberty and freedom guaranteed to American citizens in the Bill of Rights. Kansas schools are encouraged to conduct writing contests and to submit one winning entry per class.


Deadlines:

Entries for the contest must be postmarked by March 10, 2006

Notification of winners by April 10, 2006.
Winners will receive $100 and a private tour of the Kansas Supreme Court!

Entries are retained, so it is suggested that entrants make copies before submitting their entries.

George Mason and the Bill of Rights Program

The documentary George Mason and the Bill of Rights' will be broadcast on KTWU/Topeka, KPTS/Wichita and Smoky Hills Public Television on December 15th at 1:00 p.m, 2006 (in celebration of Bill of Rights Day).

Educators are encouraged to record this program for use in their classroom, or a copy of the program may be borrowed from the KTWU Educational Lending Library by contacting Cindy Barry by phone at 785-670-1111 or by email at cindy.barry@washburn.edu
